South Norwood has a number of community hubs, each supporting different aspects of the area’s community infrastructure. Socco Cheta will be managed by a consortium of local community groups, including South Norwood Community Kitchen, Croydon Domino Club, Screen25, and Croydon BME Forum. We are working with the consortium to make the building more accessible and increase its street presence.
Based at Socco Cheta for over 40 years, the Croydon Domino Club provides a social focal point for the Black Caribbean British community. As part of a new consortium, the club is extending its membership, establishing a youth team and continuing the social and advice service it has provided at Socco Cheta over the past fifteen years.
South Norwood Community Kitchen currently operates from a nearby church. They take unwanted food and donations from supermarkets and locals, cook it up and serve hot food in a social environment.
