“These vital works will ensure Folca is at the sustainable heart of Folkestone town centre well into the future.”
Bobby's department store opened in 1931 and became a Debenhams in 1972. The site was named “Folca”and acquired by Folkestone and Hythe District Council to support the regeneration of the town centre. After winning an open design competition in September 2023, we are working on the transformation of this Art Deco landmark.
Phase 1 retrofit works are underway, with a future occupancy strategy for an NHS medical centre. Funded with £1.44 million from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, the roof and window upgrade works will cut heat loss and carbon emissions, as part of Folkestone & Hythe District Council’s Net Zero carbon plan.
“[CarverHaggard’s] experience of working successfully on similar projects, with a focus on ensuring flexibility throughout the building design, will be key to the success of this project.'
