We're on site with the transformative retrofit of this 1990s office building in Bankside for Manhattan Loft Corporation.

The fabric and systems of The Green Walk are being upgraded to achieve an EPC rating of A, with a new entrance and material treatment at ground level to address and animate the street. The new elements in glazed ceramic refer both to the details of the existing building and to the site’s history of pottery and glass making.

In the interior, the concrete structure is revealed and then extended with low-carbon construction using laminated timber beams and panels. The naturally lit spaces open onto generous planted terraces over three floors, irrigated by rainwater collected from the roof.

The raised ground floor is opened up to create new meeting areas looking over the street. Glazed ceramic piers frame the openings and the new entrance canopy, with a screen using glass lenses from traditional pavement lights to create a refractive balustrade that can be enjoyed from both sides.
