CarverHaggard

2011-2014

CarverHaggard’s Studio 8 at London Metropolitan University investigated the large and ugly structures that underpin the contemporary economy, and building types and parts of London that were being ignored by mainstream architectural discourse. The studio was a framework for research and academic collaboration, carrying out two extended projects exploring planning and economic policy, and proposing new interventions to adapt complex sites.

The New Civic was a 3 year investigation into everyday public buildings. The studio explored the potential for community-led adaptive reuse and intensification of public space on the existing sites of shopping centres, airports, and supermarkets; promoting adaptation and incremental additions rather than demolition.
