Site progress

Our gallery project in Kuala Lumpur is taking shape. The stepping angled wall which wraps the lower part of the building is in place, with piers ready to receive the glazing. The raised volumes will be clad in expanded metal mesh internally and externally.

The Cass

Our studio this year at the School of Architecture at The Cass will investigate London City Airport. As debate rages about the aviation capacity of London, the busiest city airport system in the world, and the conflict between the economic benefits and environmental costs of air travel, we will explore the potential for an expanded and developed London City Airport to benefit the people of Newham, one of the most deprived areas of the UK.

Urban Reasoning

We have been working with We Made That on a collaborative publication called "Urban Reasoning", which we will be presenting today at the UCL Urban Lab Cities Methodologies event.

The document was funded by UCL Urban Lab and AHRC as an output of the Creative City Limits research network.

The Urban Reasoning project aims to engage with a number of unanswered questions about the relationship between theory and practice and expand on the network's discussions meaningfully, critically and playfully.

CultuurStraat

We are now able to publish our entry for the Eindhoven University competition, completed in June. We suggested linking a series of cultural facilities to form a new route through the campus. Double Height communal spaces were cut through the existing residential blocks.

The Unlimited Edition

Our project for a "Garden of Remembrance" has been featured in Issue III of The Unlimited Edition, a newspaper edited by Holly Lewis and Oliver Goodhall of We Made That as part of the High Street 2012 initiative. Contributors were asked to imagine new uses for the London High Street to form part of a Pick'n'Mix selection.

In our proposal, a national "chain" of parks inhabits the shells of bankrupt chain stores. The shop is stripped out and the terrace stabilised with an open steel frame. The plot is planted with trees, and the defunct signage made into park benches and picnic tables.

The High Street 2012 initiative is an ambitious programme to enhance and celebrate the ribbon of London life that connects the City at Aldgate to the Olympic Park at Stratford.

Studio 8

This year we will be starting to teach Undergraduate Studio 8 at the London Metropolitan University Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Design. We are investigating the lost shopping centres of London; the utopian dreams that created them and the spatial and social opportunities opened up by their obsolescence. Planning Submission

We have made a planning submission for a second phase of work for a mixed-use former warehouse off Brick Lane. The existing ground floor unit is enclosed by solid brick walls at street level; these are proposed to be removed and replaced with glazing with perforated ventilation panels, to allow light into the unit and animate the streetscape.
