Nurturing Raw talent, catalysing creative development, and supporting mental health through industry-standard music and media pathways…
Raw Material Music and Media is a creative arts and music centre for young people and adults in South London.
Our retrofit of their 1990s Brixton Road building improved accessibility, unlocked new capacity, and dramatically reduced carbon — achieving a 38% reduction in heat loss and a real-world energy use intensity of just 84 kWh/sqm/year on a zero-carbon tariff.
The new Loft — built without new steel, saving 2.2 tonnes of embodied carbon — is now the building's largest room, enabling workshops, events, and commercial hires that have transformed what Raw Material can offer. In the first year since relaunch, the building supported engagement with over 1,000 new people. An exemplar for community-focused, low-carbon retrofit on a charity budget.
